Debita became licensed as a registered physiotherapist in 2001 and since has operated in Jamaica and Guyana. She holds a degree in physiotherapy and a post-graduate masters in Sport and Exercise Medicine, both from The University of The West Indies, Kingston, Jamaica. With just over 17 years working in the health field, she has served in various rehabilitative capacities in her homeland of Guyana prior to migrating. Her professional experience is vast and ranges from acute care to inpatient hospital settings, private orthopaedic clinics to adult neurological rehabilitation centres, on field sports management, team rehabilitation to sports injury prevention and performance enhancement facilities. She has served as the team physiotherapist for the Men’s Senior Cricket and Soccer Teams for Guyana.
Debita has continued to enhance her knowledge and skills through post-graduate education; including courses in joint mobility, soft tissue techniques, K-taping, vestibular rehabilitation, and exercise therapy for orthopaedic and cardiopulmonary conditions. Her areas of expertise are in sports and exercise medicine with special interest in hydrotherapy and diabetes education, including wound healing. She has certifications in both hydrotherapy and wound healing from CARI and the University of Toronto respectively.
Her current treatment approach is largely evidence-based and is a unique blend of manual techniques, modalities (thermal and electrical), and education all targeted at maximizing client function, enhancing performance, and encouraging long-term self-management.
